Little Handyman

It doesn’t take much effort for a young child to be amazed by her Dad.

When blogger PapaPat fixed a doorknob at home, his daughter went, “Daddy, you are so cool…”

Likewise, if you’re a handy Dad, chances are your child wishes that he could be just like you. Get down with him and pretend play at being the handy around the house with a toy toolbox set.

This one we’ve found is complete with a wrench, screwdriver, hammer, screws, nuts, and bolts. For a very young child, you’ll need to work with him until he improves his fine motor skills. Keep on playing together and he’ll get there soon.

Once your child is able to “hammer” and “screw” using the toy set, you may want to offer him a chance to really “help” around the house. Teach him to use the real tools the next time you’re fixing something up. Just make sure that you keep a close eye and remind him of the safety rules.

The Duktig toy toolbox set is only SGD15.90 and the Mula toy hammering block costs SGD12.90. Both are available from IKEA Singapore.
