“Are We There Yet?” – Musical Games for the Road …

carride“Are we there yet?” is a perennial question posed to many parents on the road, whose answer is invariably a “No!?!”

Here are some games you can play with your young ones whilst cruising down the highway overseas or when you’re stuck in a traffic jam in Singapore.

Remember, the most important thing is not the destination, but the journey together! Here are some musical games to help you have plenty of fun along the way!

Don’t Forget the Lyrics
Hum a tune which the kids have heard before or are familiar with. Have them recall and sing the missing lyrics to that tune. Pre-schoolers can try simple songs like ABCD, whilst primary schoolers would probably enjoy choruses from SpongeBob Square Pants or High School Musical.

Animal Beat-box Orchestra
Music lovers can try creating music with family. Turn off the radio or CD player and have your kids perform in an “Animal Beat-box Orchestra”. Use their mouths to make percussion sounds in a four-beat rhythm like, “one, two, three, four…” etc. You can add sounds of horses, pigs, goats or monkeys on top of the beat, or sing them out loud, for great entertainment value!
